NATO committed to continue working with Azerbaijan in all areas – official

NATO is committed to continue working with Azerbaijan in all areas, a NATO official told May 30, AzVision.az reports citing Trend.

“NATO and Azerbaijan have a long-standing cooperation. We are grateful for Azerbaijan’s continued contributions to the NATO-led Resolute Support Mission to train, advise and assist the Afghan security forces and institutions. Azerbaijani troops are serving with distinction. We are also grateful for Azerbaijan’s contribution to the financial sustainment of the Afghan security forces, through the NATO-run Afghan National Army Trust Fund,” said the official.

Further, NATO representative pointed out that Azerbaijan continues to make full use of the existing frameworks to enhance the level of inter-operability of its forces with Allied forces, including through the Individual Partnership Action Plan and the Planning and Review Process.

“Today our practical cooperation covers many areas, from capability development to energy security, and safe disposal of unexploded mines and ammunition from the former Soviet Army. We encourage Azerbaijan to step up the reform process of its security institutions, including by taking full advantage of our Building Integrity program to help fight corruption,” noted the NATO official.

NATO representative noted that the organization welcomes Azerbaijan’s work on finalization of a national action plan on UN Security Council Resolution 1325 by the end of 2018, and encourage Azerbaijan to continue to implement the overall Women, Peace, and Security agenda.

“We are committed to continue working with Azerbaijan in all areas chosen by the Azerbaijani authorities and to take our cooperation further,” added the official.
